Siddha Maruthuvam Moolathathuvam

About the Department

The Department of Siddha Maruthuva Moola Thathuvam is the foundation stone of the BSMS curriculum at Annai Medical College of Siddha and Research Centre. “Moola Thathuvam” literally means “fundamental principles” — and this department introduces students to the philosophical, scientific, and spiritual framework on which the entire Siddha system of medicine rests.

Gifted to humanity by the 18 Siddhars — spiritual scientists who mastered the laws of nature, the body, and consciousness — Siddha medicine is one of the world’s oldest documented healing systems. Our department guides first-year BSMS students through the 96 Thathuvangal (96 principles), the Panchabhootha theory, the Mukkutra siddhantham, the structure and evolution of the universe and the human body, and the historical and cultural roots of Tamil medical wisdom. This grounding prepares students to think, diagnose, and heal in the authentic Siddha tradition throughout their careers.

Vision

To preserve, propagate, and advance the timeless wisdom of the Siddhars by producing physicians who are deeply rooted in the foundational principles of Siddha medicine and capable of applying them with clinical precision in modern practice.

Mission

  • To develop in every student a clear understanding of Panchabhootham, Mukkutram, Udal Thathukkal, and the principles of human constitution (Yakkai Ilakkanam).
  • To bridge ancient Siddha wisdom with contemporary scientific reasoning through evidence-informed teaching.
